CM: Milan must secure Leao

AC Milan are enjoying the performances from Rafael Leao who is full of confidence heading into the final two games of the season, but they must resolve his long-term future.

According to Calciomercato.com, Leao is seen as a key part of the team fighting for the Scudetto but also a key pillar of the future and that is why the intention is to renew his contract. The Portuguese winger has scored 13 goals this season with 10 of those in the league. He also has 9 assists to date, 7 in the league.

His latest decisive contributions came during the 3-1 win over Verona as he twice set up Sandro Tonali to engineer a comeback win. After the season is over, the renewal negotiations will be played out to extend his current 2024 deadline.

The parties are in constant contact to find an agreement but it may not be easy as Jorge Mendes, his agent, has raised the requests. The Sporting CP legal dispute is a worry, and the current ask is €4.5m net per season from Leao and his entourage from him.

Milan have no intention of losing him but Mendes has warned the management of an offer coming from an English team. The club are either going to be taken over by RedBird Capital or Investcorp, and for the time being the management would only come to the negotiating table if offers of €70m+ arrive.
