Upon her diagnosis, Amy’s friends, family and former teammates rallied together and started Amy’s Army to provide both financial and emotional support for Amy as she battled the disease. One of those members was her former teammate Emily Francis Kaplan.
“Amy was the most selfless, determined and kind person I’ve ever known on or off the pitch,” Francis Kaplan said. “Not only was she the epitome of what it means to be a good teammate, but I was fortunate enough to see her become an incredible mother and wife and will forever call her my friend de ella. Amy made a positive impact on everyone she met, and she will always hold a special place in the hearts of our Buckeye family.”
Cassie Dickerson played alongside Amy in 2008 and she too felt Amy’s influence.
“Amy was the epitome of a Buckeye,” said Dickerson. “The most gritty, selfless, caring person who gave her all of her in everything she did. She was just as witty as she was kind, with the uncanny ability to hold you sternly accountable in the most supportive way possible. No one out worked Amy Graeff. She had so much tenacity and fire. If only we all loved the game and others the way she did. A true captain, teammate and friend. We were all better players to have laced up alongside her de ella and all better women to have known her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, at 11:00 am at the Church of the Resurrection (6300 E Dublin-Granville Road, New Albany, Ohio 43054.) A celebration of life will follow mass with lunch provided. OBITUARY
