Revival of ‘Law & Order’ Renewed on NBC – Season 22

It’s official: Law returns for season 22.

NBC’s Jack McCoy revival of Sam Waterston has been renewed for another season, TVLine has learned. Law & Order: Organized Crime it has also been renewed for a third season; Law & Order: SVU already won another season (the 24th) as part of a huge Three-Season renewal in February 2020.

“The iconic Law the brand has long been synonymous with NBC, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring back these three dramas for the 2022-23 season,” NBC President of Scripted Programming Lisa Katz said in a statement. “It’s a testament to the brilliance of Dick Wolf’s storytelling that audiences continue to be captivated by these unforgettable characters week after week, year after year.”

The original Law debuted in 1990 and ran for 20 seasons before being abruptly canceled in 2010. But it returned for season 21 in February, leading to spin-offs SVU Y Organized crime on NBC’s Thursday night schedule.

So far this season, Law averages 6.1 million weekly total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (with live streaming + 7 DVR), drawing a larger crowd than the time slot’s predecessor The blacklist averaged through January (5.1 thousand / 0.6). Of the 14 dramas NBC has aired this television season, it ranks No. 8 in both measures.

In addition to Waterston, the revival features Anthony Anderson (blackish) reprising his role as Det. Kevin Bernard. New faces include Hugh Dancy (Hannibal, the road) as Senior Assistant District Attorney Nathan Price, Jeffrey Donovan (alarming news) as Det. Frank Cosgrove, Oldelya Halevi (good problem) as ADA Samantha Maroun and Camryn Manheim (The practice) as Lieutenant Kate Dixon

Showrunner Rick Eid previously spoke about his plans to do more with the series pending a renewal. “I’m excited for the next season,” he told TVLine. “I think next year we’ll have the opportunity to dig even deeper into the character stuff, which really excites me.”

as for Law cameos, Carey Lowell returned as prosecutor Jamie Ross in the season premiere, and SVUMariska Hargitay’s Mariska Hargitay will appear as Captain Olivia Benson in the finale, which airs Thursday, May 19 at 8/7c.

Eid, who previously served as executive producer of SVU, chicago police Y fbi, alluded to additional cameos in season 22, saying, “I’m sure next year you’ll see Some.”
