The Florida Gators last got a chance to host four-star Lakeland (Florida) wide receiver Tyler Williams for the Orange and Blue game. The blue-chip recruit seemed to be fairly interested in the Gators following that trip and now he’s included UF in his latest top 10.
Williams penned a letter to his mother, Shanteria, in the Lakeland Ledger on Mother’s Day thanking her for all her support over the years and going into short detail about each of his 10 finalists. With Florida, it’s the attention and straightforwardness that sticks out.
“Just with the new coaching staff, from Day 1, the communication has been great,” Williams wrote. “They check up on me all the time. They keep it honest. I feel like their WR room gets an equal amount of playing time. They really spread it out throughout the room.”
Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Syracuse, USC and USF are the other programs still in the hunt. Georgia and Clemson are considered the leaders right now, but there’s still plenty of time for another team to spice things up. He’ll visit Clemson on an official visit on June 3 and then heads to Georgia the following week. Ole Miss might get a September visit, but Williams’ schedule is hard to crack with his AAU basketball tournaments competing for time.
The expectation is for Williams to commit midseason and enroll early after signing in December. Florida still has time to woo the elite receiver, but Billy Napier and Co. need to pick up the pace over the summer to beat out the other Power Five programs involved.
The 247Sports composite ranks Williams as the No. 190 overall recruit in the class of 2023 and No. 25 among receivers. The Gators have a history of landing elite talent out of Lakeland. Could Williams be the next?
