Grizzlies’ Ja Morant (bone bruise) doubtful for remainder of playoffs

After leaving Game 3 in the fourth quarter with an apparent injury, Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant was ruled out for Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors on Monday due to knee soreness.

On Tuesday, the Grizzlies provided an injury update regarding Morant’s status going forward. Following an MRI, Morant has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right knee. Although he’s expected to make a full recovery, Morant has been ruled doubtful for the remainder of the postseason.

Through the first three games of the series, Morant was on-fire, averaging 38.3 points on 50.6% shooting from the field with 8.3 assists and 6.7 boards in 38.4 minutes per contest against the Warriors.

Morant’s injury came late in the fourth quarter in Game 3 after Jordan Poole appeared to make contact with the Grizzlies’ budding superstar. Following the game, Morant tweeted a video of the play with the caption “broke the code.” Morant later deleted the tweet.

Without Morant, Tyus Jones and Kyle Anderson combined for 36 points in Game 4, but it wasn’t enough to close out Steph Curry and the Warriors. Curry tallied 18 points in the fourth quarter to rally the Warriors past the Grizzlies in Game 4, 101-98.

Following Tuesday’s loss to the Warriors at Chase Center, the Grizzlies trail the Warriors 3-1 in the second-round playoff series. Facing elimination, the Grizzlies will host the Warriors in Game 5 on Wednesday at 6:30 pm PT at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
