Either the red or the blue half of Milano will be celebrating in 10 days time as the Scudetto race enters its final two acts of the season, but one journalist has claimed that AC Milan deserves it more than Inter.
Alberto Cerruti writes for Calciomercato.com is quite a simple one: Milan have a better head-to-head record against Inter having taken four points off their city rivals, which means that they would win the league if the two teams finished level on points .
The second reason is that Milan have been demonstrating an excellent athletic condition and a great character all season that has allowed them to overturn several critical situations such as being 2-0 down at home against Hellas Verona in the first games (won 3-2) and trailing at the Bentegodi in the most recent fixture (won 2-1).
Not only that but evenings before Inter’s slip-up in Bologna, Milan came from a goal behind against Lazio, winning 2-1 in the final minute thanks to Sandro Tonali’s goal. In addition, after an hour of domination by Inter, Olivier Giroud’s brace turned the February derby on its head and created the head-to-head advantage.
The third reason is that Milan have put together some incredible stretches this season, including 11 wins in 12 to begin the league campaign and a current run of 14 consecutive games without defeat.
The draws against Salernitana and Udinese and the most recent defeat against Spezia (with the controversy due to a clamorous refereeing error) slowed down the Rossoneri’s charge, but they always responded and they have been top or joint-top of the league for 22 out of 36 rounds. Inter, meanwhile, have been top or joint-top for 10.
