Take aim at one more hypocritical COVID celeb: The big musical theater turns out to be a ranting mask (no mask) Karen.
A viral video shows the Tony and Grammy winner yelling “fuck you” at a patron for refusing to wear a mask after a performance of “Company” at the American Theater Wing. However, LuPone was not wearing a mask as he ranted. Color us surprised.
Yeah, I was doing a post-show Q&A. She probably wanted her face to be seen and her speech to be understood. But the politics of the theater in which she performs calls for masking.
Then why not she? Does being on stage mean you can’t make others sick?
LuPone’s blatant hypocrisy was met with a wave of pathetic applause. But it is typical of the way politicians, celebrities and other elites have behaved since the pandemic began.
Witness Mayor Eric Adams forging a mile-wide celebrity exemption into New York City’s private sector vax mandate. Or AOC smiling for a glamorous photo at the Met gala with a squad of masked servers in the background. Or disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo announcing that have I was going to host Thanksgiving dinner after telling the rest of us commoners not to do exactly that.
As years of data now make abundantly clear, restrictive mandates do nothing, good or bad, for large-scale COVID outcomes. New York has gone from having massive restrictions and sky-high COVID deaths to almost no restrictions and steadily dripping death and hospitalization rates, which remain low during the current “fifth wave”.
That’s due to vaccines, increased natural immunity, a better understanding of COVID among doctors, and therapies now entering the market.
Do not mask or vaccine mandates. Remember: our results are nearly identical to Florida, which never followed the same restrictive path.
What LuPone’s video shows -for the umpteenth time- is that the powerful love theater-hygiene. And petty privileged tyrants will continue to unwittingly punish others for breaking the rules they only follow when they feel like it until our officials, elected and others, show some courage by killing our latest COVID rules and ending this unscientific charade for forever.
