A popular new Snapchat filter depicts users as a whimpering, weeping mess, leading the internet to believe it might be inspired by amber heard …a theory that is total BS.
If you use the ghost app regularly, you’ve probably already seen this feature: It’s an augmented reality lens that you can toss into your cup, changing your facial expression to one that’s hilariously sad and emotional… and it’s got the kids hooked, as many of these videos have now gone viral.
While it might be a hit… it has also become the cause of a new rumour/joke, namely that Snapchat bosses must have used Amber cried last week on the stand like the model here.
Despite rampant speculation, we’re here to tell you otherwise… a Snap spokesperson tells TMZ there’s simply no truth to it, that the lens is inspired by Amber Heard and if you think about it logistically, it just doesn’t add up. . .
We’re told that this specific filter, which just came out on Friday, has been in the works for 6 months…so it was in the works long before Amber offered her tearful testimony. More importantly, Snapchat tells us that they would never play coy with a DV case.
Another says this has nothing to do with Amber… the fact that Snap released a filter that does the exact opposite not too long ago (big smiley face), so naturally a sad face would follow.
Waiting for your permission to upload Instagram media.
As we said, the crying face filter has been all the rage since its debut last week; It’s already racked up more than 1.3 billion impressions on Snapchat, we’re told, and it was used especially in NFL circles, where some of the league’s biggest stars were having a blast shedding fake tears for their fans and friends. .and to be honest, it’s pretty funny.
Which is not fun…spreading fake news and misinformation, and the AH connection is exactly that.
