CBS Picks 3 Drama Pilots For Series, Moves On To Comedy Pilots – Deadline

CBS has given series orders to three of its five drama pilots, Max Thieriot’s country of fire (fka lime fire); east new york, led by Amanda Warren and Jimmy Smits; Y So help me Todd (fka Untitled Mother & Son Legal Drama), starring Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin. CBS doesn’t comment beyond that, but I hear all three series are for the fall.

True Lies, ordered as an off-cycle pilot, had also been rumored for a series order, probably for the middle of the season. I heard negotiations between CBS and 20th Television are continuing, and the project is still very much alive.

CBS’s Remaining Drama Pilot Doesn’t Advance early edition, a reimagining of the Kyle Chandler series that had been going cold, as well as all of the CBS comedy pilots/features. The network this year turned to its own studio, CBS Studios, for all presentation assignments for comedy projects. The Hug Machine, Shadowy Buddy, Unplanned in Akron), while the only comedy from an outside studio, Warner Bros. Televisions rust Hood News, he was a complete pilot.

I heard CBS directors were very happy with their drama pilot pool this season, considered one of the strongest in years, while the comedy pilot pool produced nothing of note.

With CBS also canceling three current comedy series: United States of Al, B Positive Y How we roll – the network will have the fewest half-hour series on the schedule at one time. CBS five years ago reduced its Monday comedy block from two hours to one hour, and more recently it consists of The neighborhood Y Bob Corazones Abishola. CBS can now do the same with Thursday’s two-hour block.

So help me Todd has been one of the Cinderella stories of the 2022 broadcast season. Taking a huge hit early on when the female lead was recast, with Marcia Gay Harden replacing Geena Davis opposite Skylar Astin, the pilot stuck in the middle. of the pack and had a great finish with good test results from what I heard.
