Steph Curry references Grizzlies’ rally song in pregame trash talk

The Golden State Warriors are just one win away from a trip to the Western Conference Finals, and can secure that victory on Wednesday in Game 5 of their series against the Memphis Grizzlies.

When ESPN’s Kendra Andrews asked Steph Curry about the game plan to close out the series, he gave a simple, yet still pot-stirring, answer: “Whoop that trick.”

The Golden State guard seems confident in his team — so much so that he’s willing to throw out the rally song and chant that Grizzlies fans have been using for years.

The song referenced, “Whoop That Trick,” became the Memphis fans’ mantra during a 2013 playoffs series against the Los Angeles Clippers. The song reportedly played after Blake Griffin and Grizzlies legend Zach Randolph got into it, and officials decided to review their scuffle. The Memphis crowd got to its feet, and the song became a staple of the fandom ever since.

Curry and the Warriors now have to enter that very same hostile environment and get a win to advance to the next round of the playoffs. Sure, they have a commanding lead in the series, but one could easily argue that two of their wins could have easily gone the other way. Perhaps the Dubs star understands the precarious nature of his squad’s 3-1 lead, and wants to galvanize his teammates to get this series over with sooner rather than later.

Ironically, in order to fulfill Curry’s plan to “whoop that trick,” the Warriors will have to stop the Memphis crowd from starting up the chant.
