‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake Rated “R” for “Strong Gore” and “Brief Graphic Nudity”

The long-gestating The Crow reboot is one step closer to taking flight.

We learned last month that a new take on The Crow is finally coming to life, with Bill Skarsgård (ITEM) leading the cast as Eric Draven and singer/actor FKA Twigs co-starring.

Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) is directing the “modern reimagining” of James O’Barr’s comic, with Zach Baylin (king richard) writing.

In a fresh article over at Deadline, they report that FilmNation Entertainment is handling the project at the Cannes Market and that filming is now lined up to take place this coming summer in Czech Republic (Prague) and Germany (various locations).

This is the furthest along any of the most recent incarnations have gotten. THR previously broke down the path to bring The Crow back to the big screen: “Director Stephen Norrington (Blade) was involved with one reboot, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and actor Luke Evans worked on another. Corin Hardy (The Nun) took on the task for a reboot in 2017 and got Jason Momoa to star. Then, both men left in 2018 after a clash over financial issues between producers and distributors.”

In the 1994 movie starring the late Brandon Lee, Eric Draven’s fiancée is killed alongside Draven, setting the film’s revenge storyline into motion. It spawned a handful of sequels.
